Life on Autopilot

For the past few weeks, we’ve been in a series of messages entitled, “Autopilot” (check out the series on my audio blog: http://fromthewordgo.podbean.com/). We named the series “Autopilot”, because it’s a fitting description of how many of us live our lives. Far too often, the routines we put in place to help us make the most of our moments end up becoming ruts that we can’t get out of. While being stuck in a rut doesn’t demand a lot from us mentally, it does suck the life out of you.

Over and over again, in Scripture, we see God reaching down from heaven to touch the lives of His people and shake them out of the rut they were in. From prophets to leaders to certain events to the Son of God Himself, God has taken drastic steps to get our attention and refocus us on living the lives that He would have us live.

Have you ever paused your endless activity to assess where you really are and where you’re headed? Have you ever stopped to consider what’s most important and if you’re addressing that in your life? If not, some things have got to change. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to get to the end of my life and think, “Why didn’t I?…If only I…I wish I would have…” The only way to make the most of our moments is to stay in the moment. Be sensitive to what God is doing. Be attentive to where He’s leading your life. And be committed to following through. Then and only then will the life you’re living be the life you’d always hoped for.

The Road to Happiness

It’s Involved

We’ve already established that it’s our connections that provide us with the greatest opportunities to change lives, so it only makes sense that getting involved in each other’s lives is what will lead to a meaningful life. Where Relationship Begins

Have you ever stopped to think about why you’re here? Why is it that God created you? Are you here merely for the purpose sucking air and taking up space? Every entity has a reason for why it exists. It’s that reason (purpose) that dictates what you do and even how you do what it is that you do. It’s purpose that wakes us up every morning. It’s fulfilling our purpose that allows us to sleep at night and it’s failing to accomplish our purpose that keeps us awake at night.

So what is it that you’re here for? What’s your purpose in life? I think we’re here to influence others and change their lives for the better. It’s kind of a tall order, if you think about it. Just Let Go

Hitting the Jackpot

We all do stuff, at times, that doesn’t make much sense. You know what I mean, right? How many of us have ever tried dieting without exercise? How did that work? How many of us have ever tried to overcome some kind of temptation while refusing to avoid the very environments that got us into trouble in the first place? Over the course of my life, I’ve learned that the only prerequisite for irrational behavior is a pulse.

With that in mind, I recently read an article about how playing the lottery (i.e. the odds of winning and the chaos that ensues if you actually were to win) didn’t make much sense. Now, I’m not “dogging” those of you who are financially responsible who like to play here and there. And I’m not against the fact that states use the money for schools and other important things. I’m just trying to point out that whether it’s winning the lottery (see the article below) or beating the market or growing whatever other investments that you may have, it seems as though ”Hitting the Jackpot” isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Maybe that’s because, as Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 5:10 NIV, “Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless.” Maybe we just weren’t designed to handle the instantaneous riches to which many of us aspire. Maybe God doesn’t really care about our net worth. Maybe we’d all be better served taking life (relationships, finances, responsibilities, etc.) one step at time, moment by moment, instead of always looking for the mother lode which, more often than not, leaves us feeling overwhelmed and under-enthused. Whatever the case, there’s got to be more to this life than the selfish attainment of excess. May we be blessed with eyes that see and with hearts that are open to what’s really important. And may we learn to live for that which lasts and leave behind the less of more.
